Challenge

An Australian mining customer, supported by our representative Promet, presented us with an exciting task. Continuous operation of a belt conveyor was to be guaranteed for at least a whole year. For us, this meant that the maintenance interval had to be at least twelve months. The central conveyor line transports highly abrasive magnetite (iron ore), which caused excessive wear to the previous scrapers and components. After extensive testing by a wide range of manufacturers, material adhesion was still a problem. This caused safety hazards, increased maintenance costs, and damage to the conveyor belt.

Solution

After a comprehensive analysis of the belt conveyor, the right products were selected to reliably clean the belt of extremely abrasive magnetite (rubbing, abrasive, wearing). The solution is to use our STARCLEAN® type 83RS with heavy-duty carbide segments of type 385nl in combination with our 56n secondary scraper and a water spray.

The use of carbide segments gives the scraper a remarkable service life of over one year with minimal wear of just 10% to 15%.

The scraper's innovative design allows simple maintenance and fast, tool-free segment replacement. The slides pull out from the side to reduce maintenance time, while offering a great deal of occupational safety.
